Studying Fine Art at degree level, I feel, would be an amazing opportunity not only to build on the skills of creating art but also to learn about the history behind the subject and about contemporary arts today. I particularly enjoy drawing and also print-making, favouring the topic of portraiture most of all. However, learning the new techniques and styles, I think, is what is so exciting about art as there is so much out there, especially when you find something that fits perfectly with what you enjoy, even if you may not have known it! Below I have posted some of my best work from last years AS work and some from my recent project of 'Unusual Figures', hope you like them.

Chester Architecture

This piece I created in my AS Fine Art project based on architecture and is
influenced by the works of Ian Murphy. One idea that influenced me was his use of
 textures in his backgrounds, which was an idea that inspired me and I tried to replicate
 in this drawing of a building in Chester.

Ian Murphy Research

This is a page from my sketchbook where I'd decided to analyse and
try to replicate some of Ian Murphy's works and practise re-creating
both a greyscale and coloured piece of his artwork.

Windows and Archway

Here, I have again used Murphy's idea of using textures in the background to bring areas of the image forward,
but have also experimented by merging two images of a building in Chester and an archway
in Manchester.

Dirk Dzimirsky Research

For my AS exam project, I chose to do the brief  'Elderly People' as I wanted to study
character in faces and learn how to show this in my work. One of the artists I researched was
Dzimirsky who looked at facial expressions and I found his work very interesting and loved how he
caught expression that may only be observed for a split second.

Inspired by Dzimirsky

This piece I created in the style of Dzimirsky's 'Drawn Face VI' as I liked the idea of water being splashed
on the face and the expressions that may be pulled within just a few seconds. I also tried experimenting
with washes of colour to try and give the image a bit more life.

Portrait of Pat

This portrait was a development leading up to my final piece and I was testing
using bold colours in some areas and subtle washes of colour with graphite in others,
to see what effects it would create.

Elderly Woman

This small drawing I drew to try and recreate the character of the elderly womans face
to make the image more interesting and appealing, as people tend to relate to
an image more if it has more character and personality.

Replication of Bing Jones' 'Dr Geoffrey Cook'

This is a study of an 'Dr Geoffrey Cook' by Bing Jones which I thought would be an
interesting piece to replicate as I like the colours and tones in the image. Also, I really liked the
idea of using different coloured backgrounds to work on as it gives the
image more depth and tone.

William Blake Research



This is a research page on the artist William Blake who I am finding very
influential in my current A-level project. I have enjoyed looking at his
use of colours and his ideas of surreal creatures, and chose these two
of my favourite pieces to replicate.

Stonework Tiger

This development piece is an experiment in using a mixture of bright watercolours
worked into with charcoal to give it contrast and make it bold. The idea was
inspired by the colours in William Blakes 'The Number of the Beast is 666' as they are
 so vivid yet there is still the dark shades within it.

Blue Tiger

Here, I have worked into an intagio print of a stonework tiger with the works
of M.C. Escher in mind to try and create a bizarre and contrasting composition. I also
experimented using newspaper transfers and inks to give the image a washed,
eroded effect.

Fabric Peacock Print

This is a monoprint technique created by inking fabrics so that
the ink transfers a textured design, which I did inspied by the idea of 
birds, peacocks in particular. This has created quite an abstract and unusual effect
which I experimented  on by adding a textured background to see what results could be achieved.
